Job Description

The Civil Engineer II will perform a variety of duties and must demonstrate above-average knowledge of all facets of concrete construction and perform remarkably good and consistent work. It is considered arduous and strenuous work as it involves kneeling, bending and reaching for objects for a long time. Working conditions can vary greatly depending on the job, however, most work will be performed outdoors and often in extreme weather conditions. Must be willing to ask for help when necessary to ensure the concrete product is finished professionally, correctly and without defects, and to move heavy objects.


Functions and responsibilities


  • Preparation of the work, placing formwork, pouring concrete, filling and cleaning the work.


  • Comply with safety regulations.


  • Follow construction plans and instructions from supervisors or more experienced workers.


  • Teach apprentices to use the tools, equipment and materials of the trade.


  • Make edges, joints and use a screed on freshly placed concrete.


  • Perform finishing tasks quickly and independently.


  • Place concrete forms, cut, bend and tie rebar.


  • Set levels with the use of laser levels, spirit levels and string lines.


  • Pour the concrete and smooth and finish the surfaces of the placed concrete, using a variety of towels and manual and mechanical equipment.


  • Make flat and level, interior and broom in all weather conditions.


  • Determine small color variations.


  • Keep work area and work trucks clean and organized.


  • Ensure quality control and production.


  • Communicate with others involved in the project to request or transmit necessary information to the foreman.


  • Develop and mentor subordinates to teach and train others to be able to assume roles when necessary.


  • Motivate and train workers to perform designated work with good time management skills.


  • Follow lines of authority as supervisor and subordinate.


  • Teach workers to develop good work practices and quality control.


  • Communicate and train other employees on safety standards and recognize and correct safety problems promptly.


  • Stop work whenever there is a serious risk to your safety or that of others and inform your immediate supervisor.


  • Other assigned tasks.


Schedule


40 hours and overtime is paid if required.

TN Qualifications


  • Professional degree in Civil Engineering or similar.

  • Current professional license.

  • Valid passport.
